NATO CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 18TH NATO CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
BEYTEPE, ANKARA-TURKEY 02-08 SEPTEMBER 2007

1. Location:
a. Gendarmerie Schools Command, Beytepe-Çankaya-ANKARA.
b. Ankara Esenbo?a International Airport situated about 35 kilometres away from the Gendarmerie School Command is easily accessible by air.
c. Teams will be collected by the organizing nation from their arrival points at the Ankara Esenbo?a International Airport to the championship site.

2. Board and Accommodation:
Accommodation at the Gendarmerie Schools Command is provisioned for players and organizers of the 18th NATO Championship. If there is any spare accommodation after all the players and organizers have been accommodated, spouses may be housed under the same conditions, however, players wishing to bring their spouses should be prepared to seek alternative accommodation, should the need arise. One alternative, which comes highly recommended, is the Bilkent Hotel. It is about 3 kilometres away from the venue, and summer rates are available at internet (www.bilkentotel.com.tr)

3. Programme:
The tournament will follow the structure laid down by the Regulations of the International Military Chess Committee (IMCC), adhering to the rules of the game as dictated by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). A seven-round individual Swiss tournament will take place, with the four highest-scoring players from each country counting towards the team score.

4. Sports Facilities:
The venue boasts an impressive array of sporting facilities; such as swimming, tennis etc. free of charge for the guests coming for the championship.

5. Composition of the Teams:
a. All employees of the participating nation’s Defence Department are regarded as potential team members (civilians included). Teams will consist of a maximum of eight people:
- 1 * Team Captain
- 1 * Team Official
- 6 * Team Members
b. During the tournament, a team representing NATO will be made up from personnel (team captains and officials) not already representing their nation.

6. Conditions of the Residence at the Venue:
The food and lodging will be provided by the organisers from lunch meal on Sunday 02nd September until breakfast on Saturday 08th September. Supplementary costs of telephone calls, drinks, laundry etc. will be borne by the individuals concerned.

7. Internet Access:
Internet access will be available while at the accommodation site.

8. Health Care:
First aid services will be given free of charge; however for further treatments such as operations and hospitalizations all players and officials should check that their health insurance is valid in Turkey and bring the necessary documentation with them. The nearest hospital (Atatürk Hospital) is about 5 kms away from the venue.

10. Entry Fee:
The entry fee is 210€ (all payments in Euros only) per participant or spouse and should be paid before August 08th 2007 by Bank Transfer to:

11. Uniforms:
Formal Service uniforms are to be worn at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the final banquet and when otherwise authorised. The wearing of the combat dress uniforms is discouraged during official functions. Civilian clothes may be worn when chess games are in progress.

12. Passports or Visas:
Participating delegations are responsible for ensuring that the correct documentation is carried by the team members on entering Turkey. For information on requirements, please contact the Turkish Embassy or Consulate serving in your country.

13. Food and Drinks:
In Ankara, the use of bottled water is recommended. The caterers at the venue will be providing a varied menu for food for the participants.
